Melissa HenakMelissa Henak, who has served as an Elder Care Advisor with JacksonWhite Attorneys at Law for nearly 10 years, provides assistance with Elder Law issues, including advance directives, estate planning, and long-term care benefits. She is committed to educating, empowering, and encouraging others to get their affairs in order for their benefit now and in the future.

 
 
Beth BeihnBeth Biehn works at Hospice of Havasu as the coordinator of the Transitions Program. She graduated from Northern Arizona University with her BSW (bachelors in social work) and University of North Dakota with her MSW (masters of social work). She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers. Beth has worked in the field of hospice and geriatric care for over 15 years. Transitions is a no-cost, no-obligation community outreach program.

Walker of the Month February 2019
February Walker of the Month Brigitte Wittgren
Brigitte Wittgren is our walker for February.  She is 74 years young, divorced and has 2 children and 4 grandchildren.  She moved to Lake Havasu from Indiana where she was a district manager and consultant.  In Havasu she was a school bus driver and is now retired.
Brigitte enjoys walking at Rotary Park, exercising and socializing at Titan Gym. She does Tai Chi, Stretch and Tone and kayaks several days a week.  She does some form of exercise 7 days a week.
Brigitte exercises to keep breathing (she has asthma) and to keep her joints moving.
Brigitte likes to exercise outdoors and at the gym.  So get motivated to keep moving and

Help Wanted2+ Volunteer Positions Open
 
Health & Wellness 101 Coordinator is being re-invented this year. We hope to make it new, fresh and exciting. We are looking for a person to solicit and schedule speakers, brainstorm topics and reserve facilities and work with staff on publicity.
 
Events Coordinator(s) we are looking for a person or persons to oversee the event committee, recruit volunteers, sponsors, and/or vendors at our health fairs and work with staff to design publicity items and overall strategy. Volunteer to coordinate one event, or all. Events include the Winter Health Fair, Back to School Health Fair, Community Health Fair, Ms. Havasu Senior Pageant, and smaller fundraisers.
 
If you are interested in one of these volunteer positions, please stop by the Health Foundation at 94 Acoma Blvd. S. Ste. 101 A volunteer application may be found on our website and in our office.

Drivers Needed
Veteran's Court Van

Drivers Needed for Veteran's Treatment Court

Drivers will provide:
· Curbside service for veterans in LHC Veterans Treatment Court.
· Drive throughout the LHC, Parker, Bullhead and Kingman area.
· Transport Veterans to Testing, Court or Counseling services.
· Be available Monday through Friday.
· Rotate with other drivers, be on call for 1 week periods.
To apply:
· Complete an application at Havasu Community Health Foundation.
· Provide valid Arizona Drivers License.
· Provide current 3 year driving record from Motor Vehicle Department.
 
Veterans Health Awareness -  Backpack Project
Backpacks for homeless veteransJoin Havasu Community Health Foundation in supporting our homeless veterans with backpacks filled with health & hygiene products.  Drop off any of the items in the next section, (click Read More) at our office.  Cash donations are also accepted for expenses related to this and other veteran’s programs.

Dementia Connection of Havasu Support Meetings
Dementia Connection of HavasuDementia Connection of Havasu holds regular support group meetings the first, second and third Tuesdays of each month at 1:00 pm.  Meetings in May will be held the  8th and 15th..
 
Meetings are held in the HCHF Learning Center in the Shambles, 2126 McCulloch Blvd. N. Ste. 5 & 7.
 
An activity group is provided for your loved one.  Please call 928-453-8190 to make a reservation.
HHWC Saturday Walking Group
Walking Feet
Put your walking shoes on and join the Havasu Healthy Striders on Saturdays at 6:30 am--gotta beat the heat!
 
Meet them in Rotary Park near the swimming area.  Every one is welcome! 
Community Events
Terros Mobile Crisis Services HCHF is helping to spread the word about Terros Health.  Terros provides 24 hour mobile crises services to the Havasu community.  If you or someone you know is facing a mental health emergency, support is available at no cost, 24/7 through Health Choice Integrated Care's crisis line, operated by Crisis Response Network.  Call 1-877-756-4090. This service is free of charge and open to everyone regardless of insurance status.  Click here to view and download their flyer.
 
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) - NAMI Havasu offers a monthly program.  Family Support Group meets the 2nd Saturday of each month at 10:00 pm to 11:30 am, in the Mount Olive Lutheran Church at 2170 Havasupai Blvd..  This group is for family members and close friends of a person with mental illness.  Participants must be age 18 or over.  Download a flyer here.  For more information call Betty Bradley at 453-7869.

Grief Support Group, Hospice of Havasu meets Wednesdays from 10-11AM and Thursdays from 5:30-6:30PM at 365 S. Lake Havasu Ave. (Hospice of Havasu main office).  Anyone from the community who is grieving the loss of a loved one can participate free of charge. Call Hospice of Havasu at 928-453-2111 for more information.
 
Caregiver Support Group, Hospice of Havasu.  Meets every Tuesday from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm at 365 S. Lake Havasu Ave. (at the main Hospice of Havasu office).  Anyone from the community who is care-giving can participate free of charge. Call Hospice of Havasu at 928-453-2111 for more information.
 
Community CPR Classes  Offered by Havasu Regional Medical Center

You are encouraged to attend ONE of the sessions to learn Hands-Only CPR and the signs and symptoms of a heart attack.  Held at the Havasu Regional Medical Center Learning Center., 1785 McCulloch Blvd. (across from K-Mart and next to Havasu Surgery Center, entrance in the back).  This course is FREE to the community.  This is not a card-earning course.  Monthly Meetings, 6 pm to 7 pm: Days vary, see attached flyer. . Uncontrolled Bleeding is the number one cause of preventable death from trauma…. Nar-Anon Family Group, Serenity on the Lake meets Wednesdays at 7:00 pm at 2041 Swanson Ave, the Alano Club. The group gives hope and help for family and friends of addicts.
