There are nine easily measured and potentially modifiable risk factors.  They account for 90% of the risk of an initial acute MI:

  1. Cigarette smoking
  2. Abnormal blood lipid levels
  3. Hypertension
  4. Diabetes
  5. Abdominal obesity
  6. Lack of physical activity
  7. Low daily fruit and vegetable consumption
  8. Alcohol over-consumption
  9. Psychosocial index
